Her outing comes after she revealed that she is not restricting herself from alcohol and weed consumption, nearly three years after her overdose.

Demi was featured in a cover spread for Glamour as she revealed that complete sobriety would set herself up for failure in her recovery after a near fatal overdose.

She believes that balance has helped her make progress with her eating disorder and could help her here instead of the ‘all-or-nothing world’ of sobriety.

The singer confided in her recovery case manager, Charles Cook, for guidance a she explained: ‘I called him and was like, “Something’s not right. I’m living one side of my life completely legalizing and this other side following a program that’s telling me if I slip up, I’m going to die.”‘

Cook asked the Cool For The Summer hitmaker what she wanted to do as she replied: ‘I think I want to try this balance thing in the substance side of my life too.’

Obviously there would be some pause from the people around her as they were said to be worried.

However they ultimately trusted Demi who explained: ‘But they were like, “She deserves this opportunity to make that choice for herself.” So I did.’

Lovato wants to make it clear that this solution is for herself and the decision to move forward with it was her own and others – especially those who are in recovery -should not follow in her footsteps.

She said: ‘A one-size-fits-all solution does not work for everybody.’

As her upcoming documentary, Dancing With The Devil, will also cover this process, Cook echoed Lovato’s sentiment in it as he said: ‘Any path that is right for someone else does not mean that it is an effective, meaningful, safe path for you.’

‘What I’m encouraging people to do is just make choices for themselves,’ Lovato said to Glamour. ‘Autonomy, for me, is what changed my life.’

Just 31-months-ago, the singer was found unconscious in her Hollywood home, after six years of sobriety.

Emergency services arrived at Demi’s home late in the morning of July 24, 2018 and brought her to the hospital after she suffered a heroin overdose, TMZ alleged.

The site’s sources claim her overdose occurred at her $8 million Hollywood Hills home, where friends gave her the opiate antidote Narcan.

Autonomy seems to be the Demi’s main focus as she also spoke candidly with Glamour about how her engagement to fellow actor Max Ehrich helped her on her journey to self-discovery in her sexuality.

The former Disney star became engaged to Max in July last year before calling things off in September and admitted that their relationship was an eye-opener to the extent of her queerness.

She said: ‘When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am. This past year, I was engaged to a man and when it didn’t work, I was like, ‘This is a huge sign.’ I thought I was going to spend my life with someone…

She confessed that she has been intimate with a woman, which she said ‘felt better’ than her experiences with men, but she is hesitant to label herself just yet.
