Soap star Amanda Mealing swaps her Casualty smock for a Strictly frock

From starched smock to spangly frock, soap star Amanda Mealing has discharged herself from Casualty and is a hot tip to dazzle on Strictly Come Dancing.

BBC bosses have tried to lure the 53-year-old to the primetime dance show for years but her work on Casualty and Holby City got in the way.

Now sources say she is set to grace the dancefloor while taking an extended break from playing Dr Connie Beauchamp.

An insider told The Mail on Sunday: ‘She’s a sexy and fabulous fiftysomething woman our audience will instantly know.

‘The casting team have attempted to get her for the last couple of years but the time has never been right. Now it is.’

Amanda will be the latest in a line of Casualty stars to compete.

In 2018, Charles Venn, who played Amanda’s on-screen lover Jacob Masters, appeared on Strictly until week 11.

In 2014 Sunetra Sarker danced with Brendan Cole until week ten, but neither could match Tom Chambers who won the glitterball in 2007.
