Ryan Gosling looks bloodied and fraught while shooting scenes for thriller The Gray Man (before doing press-ups between takes!)

Ryan Gosling looked battered and bruised while speaking frantically on the phone in behind-the-scenes snaps from the set of his new spy thriller on Monday.

On location in Los Angeles, the hunky star is shooting Netflix movie The Gray Man.

The 40-year-old Canadian heartthrob wore a dark tracksuit with red stripes on it.

Between takes he looked to be doing press-ups, sure to make sure he’s in fine form for what appears to be a physical role.

The scene appeared to be taking place amid a pile of rubble, suggesting some sort of explosion had taken place.

Ryan looked world’s away from this in snaps from the set last week, when he headed to set in a smart grey suit.

He donned a pair of grey brogues as he buttoned up his jacket while wearing a white face mask.

Earlier in day the father-of-two was seen in a casual grey T-shirt as he chatted to a crew member.

The espionage flick follows a former CIA operative turned freelance assassin named Court Gentry (Gosling) – who is also known as The Gray Man – who is hunted across the globe by his former CIA cohort Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans).

Ana De Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Wagner Moura, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush and Julia Butters also make up the cast.

It is set to become Netflix’s most expensive original production.

Shooting was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but kicked off this month in Los Angeles and is set to head to Prague, Czech Republic for additional filming, per Variety.

The story is based on the novel of the same name by Mark Greaney.

The Russo brothers – Anthony and Joseph Russo – previously confirmed that the movie will launch a franchise. Joe said: ‘What we’re doing on ‘Gray Man’ that’s different [is] … we’re not gonna answer every question in the first movie.

‘This is being conceived as a series of films, and again, potentially branching out, we could follow other characters, but we’re not gonna answer every question in the movie.

‘So you’re gonna finish the movie, [and] have a complete story, but you’re still gonna have questions about the wider universe.

‘And I think that’s one way to break the model a little bit, is to not give the audience everything in one film. Don’t have a close-ended narrative. Have an open-ended narrative that’s [like] a chapter in a book.’
