‘I’m campaigning heavily’: Roman Kemp reveals he’s on a mission to get his Spandau Ballet star dad Martin on I’m a Celebrity for his 60th birthday

He came in third place behind Jacqueline Jossa and Andy Whyment when he entered the jungle in 2019.

And now Capital FM DJ Roman Kemp, 28, wants to see his Spandau Ballet star father Martin, 59, follow in his footsteps to take on the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here jungle for his 60th birthday.

Speaking on This Morning on Tuesday, Roman revealed: ‘I’m still campaigning heavily for I’m a Celeb to have a great time with my dad!’

Like son like father? Roman Kemp has revealed he wants to see his famous father Martin, 59, take on the I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here jungle for his 60th birthday

Roman cracked up with laughter after he told hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield of his plan.

And Martin looked less than enthusiastic about the proposal as he closed his eyes and shook his head in dismay at his son’s idea.

Giggling to himself, Roman said:  ‘Do you know what, it’s my dad’s 60th this year and I’m still campaigning heavily for I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here to have a great time with my dad.’

Keen to put the wheels into motion, Holly replied: ‘We can help you on that. We can make it happen.’

But the Top Dog actor revealed his passion is still for the silver screen.

Martin said: ‘I love acting because it’s me. It’s part of my personality. It was the way that I was brought up at drama school for 10 years while I was a kid and if you spend that long in that arena it kind of bares into your soul it becomes part of you. I’d love to do more of that.’

And the former bassist completely ruled out a reunion of his band Spandau Ballet when he quickly cried out ‘no way’ at the suggestion.

But Martin might want to take his son’s advice as it was estimated in 2020 that Roman had made a staggering £1million since appearing on the gruelling reality show.

The radio host entered the jungle alongside Caitlyn Jenner, Ian Wright, Nadine Coyle, Andrew Maxwell, Jacqueline Jossa and Adele Roberts in 2019 and was subsequently met with a slew of lucrative sponsorships.

This also included being paid to appear on Celebrity Gogglebox alongside Martin, which reportedly netted the pair £12k to watch TV in their lounge.

Roman has recently been praised by the likes of One Direction’s Niall Horan and the Radio One host Scott Mills after he shed light on the need to speak about male mental health in a new BBC documentary, Our Silent Emergency.

During the programme he discussed his own battles with mental health and revealed he considered taking his own life in 2019, a year before his best friend Joe Lyons was found dead.

He thanked viewers for their response to the documentary, saying: ‘Thank you so much for the lovely words, reviews, articles and messages. Please be the hero your friend needs.’
