Tish Cyrus explains how a terrifying tour bus fire got her to start smoking marijuana at 42… as she promotes Sorry We’re Stoned podcast

Tish Cyrus says surviving a near-death experience actually lead her to smoke marijuana for the first time at age 42.

The pop star’s mom, now 53, explained how she went from being ‘so against’ cannabis to the host of the podcast Sorry We’re Stoned in a new interview Wednesday.

‘Never in my life had I ever smoked until I was 42,’ Cyrus told E! News‘ Daily Pop, revealing how she turned to the 420-friendly approach after a terrifying tour bus accident made it difficult for her to sleep.

Late bloomer: Tish Cyrus revealed that she started smoking pot at the age of 42 after a terrible tour bus fire made it hard for her to sleep

Tish told co-hosts Carissa Culiner and Justin Sylvester how she came to her weed epiphany, saying: ‘I was on tour with Miley and she had gone on—we were going from like, Houston to New Orleans—and I stayed behind to meet up with friends and on the way to New Orleans our bus caught on fire,’ burning to the ground ‘within three minutes.’

She was with daughter Noah when it all went down, explaining: ‘I had gone back to go to bed and all of a sudden I heard this huge noise, which I thought could’ve been a gunshot. It was the tire blowing on the bus.’

They pulled over and rushed off the bus with their things while the bus was ablaze.

‘I panicked, Noah was little, I got her off, my dog, I was trying to get the manager up,’ Tish said. ‘He had ear plugs in and was in bed asleep already.’

Luckily everyone was able to get off the bus safely, but the incident began making it hard for the mother-of-five to sleep at night.

She tried heavy sleep medication like Ambien, but said she ‘hated’ how it made her feel.

‘That’s actually how I started smoking,’ Tish revealed. ‘Miley said, “Mom, why are you putting a chemical in your body that makes you feel so bad the next day?””

She found that using marijuana ‘really did help’ and continues to use as a sleep aid.

While Tish likes a bit of herbally-enhanced relaxation time, famously free-spirited daughter Miley no longer imbibes.

Last year while on the Chicks In The Office podcast, Tish said: ‘Everybody thinks Miley is like this wild thing… First of all, Miley doesn’t even smoke pot anymore. She smokes CBD only.

‘She doesn’t drink. She’s the cleanest person I know. She’s like, she’s just so solid.’

The star reportedly stopped using cannabis and drinking before having vocal chord surgery in November 2019, according to Cosmopolitan
