National Treasure TV series gets the green light from Disney Plus following a new Latina treasure hunter

Disney is bringing its beloved National Treasure franchise back with a new TV series, and a big twist.

The studio has given the green light for a new 10-episode series, bringing back producer Jerry Bruckheimer, plus National Treasure and National Treasure 2 writers Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, according to Deadline.

Nicolas Cage’s Benjamin Gates will not be a focal point of the show, instead focusing on a new Latina treasure hunter character.

The first National Treasure movie followed Benjamin Gates (Cage) and Riley Poole (Justin Bartha) as they hunt for an incredible American treasure.

The film was a surprise hit at the box office in 2004, taking in $173 million domestic and $347 million worldwide.

The film was followed by 2007’s National Treasure: Book of Secrets, as they search for the truth behind Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.

The third movie was given new life in January when Bad Boys For Life writer Chris Bremner came aboard to write the script.

Bruckheimer, who also produced all of the Bad Boys movies, is producing the third National Treasure movie.

It’s unclear at this time if Jon Turteltaub, who directed both National Treasure movies, will be back at the helm.
