Ron Livingston set to replace Billy Crudup as Barry Allen’s father in The Flash movie for Warner Bros.

Just days after Zack Snyder’s Justice League debuted on HBO Max, Warner Bros. revealed a slight casting chance in their DC Extended Universe moving forward.

Ron Livingston has signed on to replace Billy Crudup as Henry Allen, the incarcerated father of Barry Allen. a.k.a. The Flash (Ezra Miller), via Variety.

Crudup played Henry Allen in both the 2017 theatrical version of Justice League and the ‘Snyder Cut,’ though he is not returning due to scheduling conflicts with his Apple TV Plus series The Morning Show.

Ezra Miller is returning as Barry Allen/The Flash, along with Kiersey Clemons, who played Iris West in the Snyder Cut, whose scenes were cut from the theatrical version of Justice League.

Also starring in The Flash movie is Maribel Verdu as Barry’s mother, who is expected to play a ‘key role’ in the superhero adventure.

Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) has also signed on to play Supergirl, with Ian Loh playing a young Barry.

Ben Affleck is also returning as Batman, while Michael Keaton will also play Batman from his 1989 movie Batman and 1992’s Batman Returns.

Keaton’s Batman is believed to reside in another part of the DC ‘multiverse’ which will be explored in the movie.

The cast is rounded out by Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls) and internet personality Rudy Mancuso, in unspecified roles.

Andy Muschietti (IT) is directing The Flash from a screenplay by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee), with Michael Disco and Barbara Muschietti producing.

Production is expected to begin later this year, after being pushed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Warner Bros. setting a November 4, 2022 release.  

As of now, The Flash is slated to go up against an untitled Disney live-action movie and Paramount’s Mission: Impossible 8, with Marvel’s Captain Marvel 2 arriving a week later.

Livingston was most recently seen on the big screen last year in Holly Slept Over, starring with Nathalie Emmanuel.

He has been keeping busy on the small screen as well, starring in the Iowa episode of Quibi’s 50 States of Fright, AT&T’s Loudermilk and HBO Max’s Search Party. 

He is currently in production on the animated drama series Pantheon and he’s attached to star in the sports biopic Pep.
