Police reveal face of murdered woman, 32, found dead in a Leicester house as detectives hunt for clues on driver of silver car who ‘spoke to her before she vanished’

  • Smita Mistry, 32, was found dead in home in Saffron Lane, Leicester on March 23
  • Police have arrested a man, 36, known to the woman on suspicion of her murder

Police in Leicester have shared a photo of a woman whose body was found in a house in Leicester earlier this week.

Smita Mistry, 32, was found in a property in the Saffron Lane area of Leicester, on Tuesday March 23.

Detectives remain in the area tonight as the investigation into the circumstances of her death continues.

In a statement issued along with the photograph of Ms Mistry – who was also known a Smita Saunders – Leicestershire Police said: ‘Following a call made to police at 8.07pm on Tuesday, Smita was found by officers inside a property in Gedge Way.

‘It was confirmed Smita, who was also known as Smita Saunders, had sadly died. An investigation was launched into Smita’s death and, following initial inquiries, a 36-year-old man, of Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

‘He currently remains in police custody. It is believed that the man in custody was known to Smita.

‘Inquiries have been continuing since Tuesday evening including checking CCTV, house to house and speaking with witnesses.’

Police have also been appealing for information from people who had any contact with Smita between last Friday and the day her body was discovered.

Detectives want to trace a man who was driving a ‘light coloured, possibly silver’ car which was seen parked in the area at around 8.20pm on Sunday, March 21.

Police said: ‘It is believed Smita may have spoken with the driver at the time. A CCTV image of the car has also been released by police.

Detective Inspector Nicole Main, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: ‘We continue to appeal to people who have recently had contact with Smita to make contact with us.

‘As part of this inquiry we have now been able to release an image of Smita.

‘Throughout this investigation, specialist officers have been providing full support to Smita’s family as we continue to establish the full circumstances of this case.
