TV networks are ‘furious’ with the timing of the 2021 Logie Awards as the ceremony is scheduled to ‘be held on the first day of the non-ratings season’

The 2021 TV Week Logie Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 28, at The Star Gold Coast.

But some TV networks are reportedly furious with the timing of the ceremony, which is normally held in May or June.

According to The Australian, some TV networks are very unhappy because the event will be held on the first day of the non-ratings season when talent will be unavailable to attend as shows will either be on hiatus or filming.

One network executive told the publication: ‘We love the Logies but we simply can’t do it at that time of year. There needs to be some compromise here. That’s all we’re asking for. But it seems to be going ahead on that day regardless.’

Channel Seven’s Big Brother, hosted by Sonia Kruger, and Australian Idol reboot will likely be in production in November.

Ten’s I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here, featuring Julia Morris and Dr Chris Brown, The Amazing Race, hosted by Beau Ryan and MasterChef could also be filming.

Meanwhile, Network Seven’s soap Home and Away will be on hiatus while Sunrise hosts David Koch and Natalie Barr will also be on holidays.

It was announced on Monday the TV Week Logie Awards will take place in November.

The ceremony will be televised on Channel 9 and 9Now.

‘TV WEEK is thrilled to have landed on a date we know we can deliver a spectacular show on,’ TV WEEK editor Amber Giles said in a statement.

‘After spending way too much time on the couch in stretchy pants over the past 12 months, it’s important to us and our partners that we come together at a time when we can all frock up and be in the same room.

‘We can’t wait to head back to The Star Gold Coast to celebrate and honour the best in Australian TV in the style for which we’re famous.

‘On November 28, we look forward to seeing on the red carpet all those who have kept us entertained and informed during trying times.’

Last year ARE Media group publisher Fiona Connolly regretfully announced the cancellation of the 2020 ceremony, originally scheduled for June.
