Ray Hadley has revealed the extravagant gift he gave his third wife, Sophie Baird, after they married on Saturday.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, the 66-year-old 2GB radio host revealed he gifted his new wife a racehorse.

The gift was in keeping with the theme of the rest of their wedding, with the couple marrying at John Singleton’s restaurant, Saddles, in Mount White in NSW.

In addition to being a restaurateur and a friend of Ray’s, John, 79, is also well-known for breeding racehorses.

Ray said he was in awe when he saw Sophie, who previously worked as his secretary, walking down the aisle towards him.

‘When she walked down… she took my breath away. She looked absolutely magnificent,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.

He added: ‘Beautiful. As beautiful as she looked, she’s a more beautiful person. She’s a fantastic wife.’

Ray described the wedding as ‘absolutely magnificent, just the best day’, after the couple was forced to postpone their wedding three times because of the pandemic.

‘The sun shone, all the guests arrived on time by the buses, not a hitch… as perfect as you can get and everyone had a great time,’ he said.

Among the 118 guests were Ray’s first wife, Anne Marie, and his three children Daniel, Laura and Sarah, as well as Sophie’s children Nick and Jessie, from her first marriage.

The couple had no bridesmaids or groomsmen, and the bride’s father, David walked her down the aisle.

Ray proposed to Sophie – who was his personal assistant for 16 years – in October of 2019 as he left home to call the NRL grand final between the Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders at Sydney Olympic Park.
