CSI is back! Crime lab procedural is returning to CBS with original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox

Six years after ending its 15 year run, CSI is returning to CBS.

Revived as CSI: Vegas, the procedural’s original stars William Petersen, Jorja Fox and Wallace Langham are all reprising their roles, THR.com reported Wednesday.

The network has greenlit a straight to series order for the show that will be made by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Studios.

Bruckheimer, the show’s executive producer, said in a statement: ‘I’m excited to be bringing back the CSI franchise to all our fans who have been so loyal to us for all these years.

‘And to be back in Las Vegas where it all started over 20 years ago makes it even more special.’ 

He added: ‘We’ve enjoyed working on this project with CBS and look forward to welcoming back Billy, Jorja and Wallace as they join a new group of talented actors in CSI: Vegas.’

CSI, which premiered in October 2000, starred Petersen as Las Vegas crime lab head Gil Grissom. 

He left after nine seasons but returned for the season 15 two-part finale. 

Fox played Harvard graduate and materials and element analyst Sara Sidle while Langham played trace technician David Hodges.

Fox was a regular for 14 of the show’s 15 seasons, making only occasional appearances in season nine. Langham joined the series in 2003 and remained until the end.

The original show also featured Marg Helgenberger as Grissom’s second-in-command at the crime lab as well as series regulars George Eads, Gary Dourdan and Paul Guilfoyle.

CSI – which stands for Crime Scene Investigation, spawned three spin-offs – CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, and CSI: Cyber.

CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl promised Wednesday that CSI fans wouldn’t be disappointed in the new incarnation.

‘Crimefighting technology has advanced dramatically over the last several years, and combined with classic CSI storytelling, we can’t wait to watch this new CSI team do what they do best: follow the evidence,’ Kahl said in a statement.
