Ed Sheeran is currently in Australia with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their daughter, after performing at music mogul Michael Gudinski’s funeral.

And the British singer has thrown his support behind the Melbourne Royal Children’s Hospital during his trip Down Under.

In a video filmed this week, Ed, 30, wore a Mushroom Records T-shirt, which Michael founded in 1972, and urged fans to donate to the hospital’s Good Friday Appeal.

‘Back in 2015, I visited the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne and I saw first-hand how amazing their work is,’ he said.

He added: ‘As a new father, I know how important it is for every child to get access to great health care. The Good Friday Appeal is a wonderful thing.’

‘It’s now in its 90th year so please donate if you can and spare $5 or $10.’

Ed and his wife Cherry Seaborn, 28 arrived in Australia along with their daughter Lyra Antarctica earlier this month.

The young family were reportedly close to being caught up in the flood emergency in NSW, shortly before his performance at Michael Gudinski’s state memorial.

According to The Sydney Morning Herald‘s Private Sydney, the couple and their seven-month-old daughter were staying in the Hawkesbury region of Sydney for two weeks of mandatory quarantine, when disaster struck.

The publications reported that Ed ‘made a narrow escape from rising floodwaters’ in the area.

The publication said the family left the property, that even had its own lake, on the ‘last road’ out of town that was not shut because of the flood waters.

Meanwhile, Ed gave an emotional performance at Michael Gudinski’s state memorial at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena last week.

He sang his hit single Castle on the Hill – one of late music mogul’s favourites – and later broke down in tears as he performed a new song, Visiting Hours, which is about his daughter Lyra.

Ed also shared the stage with Kylie Minogue – whose music career was launched by Michael – to do a duet of her songs All The Lovers and The Loco-motion.
