Pictured: Man, 23, who was stabbed to death in Croydon

Police have released a picture of the 23-year-old man who was fatally stabbed in south London last night as people gathered for a vigil to remember another recent knife attack victim.

Reece Young was pronounced dead at the scene after police were called to reports of three men fighting on Alpha Road in Croydon at 9.10pm on Tuesday.

Two men suffering from stab wounds left the scene in a vehicle and later attended a hospital where they were both arrested on suspicion of murder.

One of the suspects, thought to be aged in his 30s, assaulted officers and NHS staff before fleeing from hospital following his arrest. Police launched an urgent manhunt and he was returned to custody on Wednesday evening.

Mr Young’s family have been informed and a murder investigation is underway, said a spokesperson for the Met Police.

In a statement, the force said: ‘Officers attended and found a man who had been stabbed. Paramedics also attended but despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Detectives are confident the man is 23-year-old Reece Young. His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

‘Two men had left the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. They later presented themselves at a south London hospital with stab wounds that are believed to have been sustained in the same incident.

‘Officers attended the hospital and arrested both men on suspicion of murder.

‘The information they have could prove vital in establishing the chain of events that has led to a young man losing his life.

‘One arrest has been made and my team are working with colleagues across the Met to establish the whereabouts of the second man. We believe he suffered injuries that require urgent medical attention. He is urged to make contact with us immediately.’

The stabbing took place on the same street where 19-year-old Tai Jordan O’Donnell was stabbed to death on March 3, with a woman later charged with murder.

Multiple attacks also took place in Croydon on February 5 with 10 stabbings in the space of two hours, leaving one man dead and 10 others left injured.

No official link has been made by police between these stabbings and last night’s murder.

A crime scene is still in place today at the scene and enquiries are continuing, police said.

Police urged anyone with information to call 101 quoting CAD 7449/30MAR or to get in touch anonymously via Crimestoppers.
