Kate Langbroek misses life in lockdown in Italy after returning to Melbourne

‘It made me realise what good company my children are’: Kate Langbroek admits she misses life in lockdown in Italy after returning home to Melbourne with her family

Kate Langbroek has admitted she misses life in Italy, despite spending most of last year in lockdown with her family.

In an interview with New Idea on Monday, the 55-year-old TV and radio host said she and her family ‘hit the ground running’ after returning to Melbourne in December.

‘I slightly… very slightly… miss the lockdown days when all I had to do was organise our meals,’ she admitted.

She said she also appreciated the opportunity to spend uninterrupted extensive periods of time with her four children.

‘It made me realise what good company my children are. And how lazy I have let them be. Now they’re a lot more helpful with housework,’ she added.

Kate said while Italy’s lockdown was ‘frightening at first’, they soon ‘relaxed into it’, and she can’t wait to return to the country.

‘It was so beautiful to us, we love it – and it felt like the country loved us back,’ she explained.

‘There is a lot to be learnt from Italians – their love of family, their love of food, the way they take time to rest. The way they make everything beautiful.’

In an interview with the Herald Sun in January, Kate confessed that returning home to Australia after two years abroad had been an adjustment.

‘I have not missed the Australian small mindedness… I liked the freedom over there. Just that finger wagging thing in Australia – I did not miss that,’ she said.

Kate and her husband of 18 years, Peter Lewis, relocated to Bologna with their four children, Lewis, 17, Sunday, 16, Artie, 14, and Jan, 11, in January 2019.

It was initially supposed to be a ‘family gap year’, but they decided to extend their stay for an additional 12 months.
