TikTok users reveal how YOU can turn your bikini bottoms into stylish swimwear tops

With glimpses of sunshine across Easter weekend and Covid-19 restrictions easing, it seems summer is edging ever nearer – and with the hot weather comes the latest bizarre swimwear hacks.

People have taken to TikTok to share tutorials on how to wear bikini bottoms as a stylish swimwear top – with one even using bottoms from two different sets in a bid to create a colourblock crossover bikini top in as little as four simple steps.

Miami-based TikTok user @jmegss recorded an easy-to-follow video and can seen picking up a pair of black bikini bottoms and turning them to a 90 degree angle, before putting one arm through the crotch opening.

In the creative clip, which has been viewed over 99,000 times, Jordyn then puts her other arm and head through the waist opening to create a strap, and pulls the material down so that it covers one of her breasts.

Then, she repeats with the orange snake-print bikini bottoms on the other side.

CREATING A COLOUR-BLOCK BIKINI TOP

1. Get two pairs of bikini bottoms. Turn one pair to a 90 degree angle and put one arm through the crotch opening

2. Put other arm and head through the waist opening to create a strap

3. Pull material down so that it covers modesty

4. Repeat with other bikini bottoms on the other side

And many were quick to take to the comments section to express how they were delighted with the savvy hack.

‘I finally got it,’ enthused one. ‘I was literally just trying this out. I GOT IT!,’ while a second commented: ‘That’s like, so smart, though.’

A third branded the idea ‘genius’ while a fourth added: ‘I’m going to go and try this now.’

Another admitted: ‘I tried this and it was so perfect.’

However, not everyone got the hang of it first time round.

‘I did the first side really easily and then I had to do the right side and I was confused. I mean CONFUSED,’ wrote one.

A second agreed: ‘No matter how many times I tried this I couldn’t get it.’

Meanwhile, a third commented: ‘I think it needs to be one more size from your normal size because I was dying with the pressure on my boobs, or is it just me?’

However, Jordyn urged her followers not to give up and penned: ‘Pause and replay as much as you need to.’

Rather than forking out for a new set of swimwear, other fashion influencers set out to demonstrate how the concept works on a range of styles – including tie-bottoms and the more classic style brief-cuts.

TikTok user @evelyncruz could be seen turning a pair of palm tree print tie-bottoms into a stylish halter-neck knotted triangle bikini top.

In the short clip, she firstly ties a knot in the centre of the material, before bringing a strap from either side and making a loop to create a neckline.

The influencer then pulls it over her neck and positions the bikini over her chest to create the much-loved triangular shape.

To secure it in place, she moves the remaining straps and the back and then ties them into a bow.

And if you don’t own a string bikini, Evelyn Cruz also demonstrates the trickier option of using a regular bikini that creates a similar push up look.
