They are currently filming scenes for their much-anticipated new Victorian era TV show, The Essex Serpent.

And Tom Hiddleston and Clémence Poésy got to grips with their characters when filming beachfront scenes on Thursday in full costume, as they were seen on set together for the first time.

Loki star Tom, 40, was pictured cradling a child in his arms in one image, while Clémence, 38, looked on.

With her blonde hair styled into a bun, the French actress wrapped up in a cream shawl that no doubt kept the seafront winds at bay.

Clémence will appear as Stella Ransome, who becomes a firm friend of the film’s central character Cora (played by Claire Danes) when she arrives in the Essex village of Aldwinter.

In other photographs, a solo Tom – who plays the role of priest Will Ransome – inspected a wooden rowing boat in a pair of khaki trousers teamed with a navy jumper.

Elsewhere, he was seen sporting a clerical collar beneath a heavy black coat as he appeared to take instruction from the film crew.

The show will also star actress Danes, 41, who is Will Ransome’s love interest.

In the six-part series being filmed for Apple TV+, Claire’s character Cora Seaborne – released from an abusive marriage – develops an intense relationship with the minister.

The programme follows Cora, a widow who moves from London to the Essex village of Aldwinter in search of a mythical sea creature.

The release date for The Essex Serpent, directed by Clio Barnard, is likely to be next year, while writer Anna Symon is adapting Sarah Perry’s novel of the same name for the screen.

Maldon District Council confirmed that filming would be taking place in the area, telling Essex Live in a statement: ‘We are delighted that the production company has chosen the Maldon District as one of their locations for a new six-part drama.
