Inter Milan: Antonio Conte jokingly pretends to box Lautaro Martinez as the pair settle feud

It’s Lautaro vs Conte… with Lukaku as the ring announcer! Inter Milan pair square off in a makeshift boxing ring during training in hilarious clip, as they settle their rift after the Argentine striker was hauled off against Roma

Settling a feud between a manager and a player is never an easy task, but Inter Milan may have found the perfect way to calm things down after setting up a joke boxing match between Lautaro Martinez and boss Antonio Conte

The pair were involved in an angry spat during Wednesday’s 3-1 win against Roma after the Argentine was hauled off despite coming on as a substitute, and the squad quickly arranged for them to bury the hatchet.

Inter have already won the Serie A title, their first Scudetto for 11 years, but the bust-up hinted that there is still plenty of passion left in the team and this hilarious clip displayed their unity as a squad.

Players and staff set up a makeshift ring using cones and tape in the middle of their training pitch, with Martinez and Conte both wearing boxing gloves as they were introduced to the ‘crowd’ by star forward and ex-Man United star Romelu Lukaku.

‘Live from Madison Square Garden, It’s Lautaro Martinez!’ Said the Belgian as the squad cheered for the Argentine, who raised his hand in the air.

Lukaku then announces his manager Conte, who doesn’t receive the same warm reception as the players jokingly boo the Italian as he laughs and and lifts his fists in the air.

The ring announcer then channels his inner Michael Buffer and yells ‘Let’s get ready to rumble!’

The bizarre clip was an amicable ending to a furious bust-up between the two after Conte had told him to ‘have respect’ after kicking out following his decision to take him off against Roma.

The 23-year-old had already come on as a sub in the 36th minute of the game after Alexis Sanchez had picked up an injury, but he was taken off in the 77th minute for Ashley Young.

No player wants to be subbed as a sub, and Martinez showed his fury by trudging past his manager, kicking a water bottle and launching his shirt to the ground.

His behaviour triggered an angry response from Conte, who confronted him and said: ‘Have respect! Who are you angry with? Never react like this again.’

Martinez had not put in his best display for the team and a typically ruthless Conte was quick to make an example of him.

Inter Milan assistant Cristian Stellini said the former Chelsea boss had treated him in a similar manner when he was a player under him after a poor display, saying it was the right attitude to have – but insisted the incident was behind them.

‘This is something that also happened to me 14 years ago when Conte was my coach and I was still a player. He substituted me after 20 minutes,’ Stellini told Sky Sport Italia.

‘This is an example of the mentality we want to see. Even if the result is already secure, we expect all the players to give the maximum effort.

‘At that moment, Lautaro was not playing up to the right standard and we want players who are always fully focused. Some things remain on the pitch, it’s all in the past now and we will look forward to the next match.’
