A ute has Australia’s highest customer satisfaction score but it’s not a bestselling Toyota HiLux or Ford Ranger. 

The Isuzu D-MAX has instead topped the Roy Morgan customer satisfaction survey of popular consumer products in Australia.

The ute, which in May was Australia’s fifth most popular car, beat market leader Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus.

With a score of 94.92 per cent, it even beat the Apple iPhone‘s 94.1 per cent score and Toyota, which managed a 94 per cent rating.

ISUZU: 94.92 per cent

FIRST CHOICE LIQUOR: 94.88 per cent

APPLE iPHONE: 94.1 per cent

BEYOND BANK AUSTRALIA: 92.2 per cent

AUSSIE BROADBAND: 91.3 per cent

They were slightly in front of the Royal Automotive Association, the umbrella group for motoring services groups NRMA, RACQ and RACV which scored 92.5 per cent. 

Hardware chain Bunnings also did well scoring 91.1 per cent with German supermarket giant ALDI on 91 per cent. 

Lesser-known brands also made the top ten for customer satisfaction including Beyond Bank Australia (92.2 per cent),  the Schnitz takeaway schnitzel franchise (91.2 per cent) and Aussie Broadband (91.3 per cent).

The Isuzu D-MAX won the Roy Morgan award in 2018 but Lexus won in 2019.

This award relates to 2020.

Sales of this ute have tripled during the past year with 3,058 sold in May 2021, up 202.8 per cent compared with a year earlier when 1,010 were sold, Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries data showed.

The Toyota HiLux was Australia’s bestselling car last month with 4,402 leaving showrooms, an increase of 24.8 per cent compared with a year earlier.

It edged out the Ford Ranger, which notched up 4,254 sales, an annual rise of 59.7 per cent.

The Isuzu beat the Mitsubishi Triton which had 2,317 sales, a 167.6 per cent rise.

It also comfortably outsold the Nissan Navara, which had 1,544 sales, an increase of 112.7 per cent.

The D-MAX was also twice as popular as the Mazda BT-50, which had 1,429 sales marking a 71.5 per cent increase.

The Mazda is based on the Isuzu.

All of the most popular utes in Australia are made in Thailand with the new Chinese-built GWM Ute having 747 sales.

Roy Morgan chief executive Michele Levine said for the fourth year running with the awards based on surveys of 50,000 consumers.
