Pep Guardiola leads the way as Premier League Manager of the Year nominees are revealed… as David Moyes and Marcelo Bielsa are rewarded for impressive seasons, and Brendan Rodgers makes the cut

  • The Premier League Manager of the Season shortlist has been announced
  • Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola has been nominated after wining the title
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, David Moyes and Marcelo Bielsa have also been listed
  • Brendan Rodgers is also nominated despite his Leicester side dropping to fifth

Pep Guardiola will battle it out with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and others for the Premier League Manager of the Year Award after both Manchester-based bosses were shortlisted for the prize.

Spanish boss Guardiola sealed his third and City’s fifth Premier League title in comfortable fashion this season, with Solskjaer leading his United side to second in the table.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers, West Ham‘s David Moyes and Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa were the three other names on the five-person shortlist announced on Tuesday.

Guardiola was recently named as the League Managers’ Association (LMA) Manager of the Season – the second time he has won the award since moving to England in 2016.

Foxes boss Rodgers was named on the list despite his side failing to reach the Champions League once again despite an end of season collapse.

Leicester went into the penultimate weekend of the season in third place but defeats to Chelsea and Tottenham saw both the Blues and Liverpool overtake them in the table come the final day.

Rodgers, like last season, will have to settle for a spot in the Europa League for his FA Cup-winning side.

Meanwhile, Moyes and Bielsa have both been rewarded for excellent seasons with surprise packages West Ham and Leeds respectively.

Scottish boss Moyes led his side to a Europa League spot via a sixth-placed finish this season, ahead of the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and Everton.

The Hammers were expected to face a season in either mid-table or even towards the relegation zone – but were in the hunt for a Champions League spot for most of the campaign.

Bielsa’s Leeds side impressed on their first season back in the top-flight for 16 years, finishing in ninth place with 59 points, the most a promoted side has mustered in two decades.

There was no nomination for Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel despite taking the Blues from ninth place in January to a Champions League spot in the space of four months.
