England sink to embarrassing defeat by New Zealand

England sink to embarrassing defeat by New Zealand with Olly Stone out on the first ball of the day by Trent Boult before the visitors reel off the 38 runs needed for series victory

England’s humiliating series defeat by New Zealand was wrapped up in under an hour on day four of the second Test at Edgbaston.

Olly Stone edged the first ball of the day from Trent Boult behind to keeper Tom Blundell, meaning England were all out for a miserly 122, setting New Zealand only 38 to win.

Stuart Broad and Olly Stone dismissed Devon Conway and Will Young respectively but the result was never in doubt.

Stand-in New Zealand captain Tom Latham hit the winning run to seal an eight-wicket triumph, with victory coming inside 11 overs. It is captain Joe Root‘s first home series defeat as England captain.
