Euro 2020: Jamie Carragher slams England captain Harry Kane for sub-par display vs Germany

Furious Jamie Carragher SLAMS Harry Kane’s display for England against Germany after another sub-par showing and says the forward has ‘got to get himself into the game’ as he urges Gareth Southgate to sub him off

Jamie Carragher was far from happy with Harry Kane‘s efforts in England’s last-16 clash against Germany – hitting back at claims he was lacking service and urged Gareth Southgate to sub him off.

Kane has been widely criticised for his below-par displays so far at Euro 2020, with many fans and pundits calling for the Spurs striker to be dropped, but his boss Southgate kept faith with him for the pivotal clash at Wembley.

But with Kane missing a huge chance towards the end of the first half and barely touching the ball otherwise, Carragher was left furious and said the England captain simply wasn’t getting himself involved in the game enough.

‘FFS! Stop talking about getting Kane into the game!!’ The Liverpool legend Tweeted. ‘He’s got to get himself into the game. Gareth needs to change him.’

Kane had around nine touches in a quiet first half, but failed to pounce on a huge opportunity to open the scoring at the end of the first 45 minutes.

He collected the ball inside the six yard box, but lost possession as he looked to switch it onto his right foot and Manuel Neuer was able to scoop it away from danger.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin not selected in the squad, there was not a clear candidate to replace Kane if he was underperforming on Tuesday evening, although there were cries for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford to step in.

While Kane was largely quiet for most of the second period, he did have a hand in England’s opening goal against the Germans – laying it off for Jack Grealish outside the area, who played in Luke Shaw to whip it across for Raheem Sterling to slot home.

All of England’s three goals at Euro 2020 have been scored by Raheem Sterling so far, with Kane also missing a huge chance to score in the 1-0 win over Czech Republic in the group stage.
