A bitter cold snap has resulted in a stunning snowfall 500km north of Sydney in the past 24 hours – with weekend rain predicted across most parts of the nation.
Residents in Guyra, between Armidale and Glen Innes in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, woke up to the unusual sight of falling snow on Thursday morning.
One shocked local uploaded a video to Instagram showing her child surrounded by white powder, with her daughter loving the unexpected snowfall on a local sporting field.
There were similar scenes at Eukey Town Hall, south of Stanthorpe in southern Queensland on Wednesday, as snow and sleet fell for the first time in two years.

Residents in the small town of Stanthorpe in southern Queensland saw snow for the first time in two years this week
Some parts of the Sunshine State shivered through their coldest July morning in almost two decades on Thursday.
Temperatures hit a freezing -4.4C in the town of Oakey, near Toowoomba, making it the coldest July morning since 2004.
In Sydney, residents in lockdown endured their coldest morning since August of 2018 on Thursday, with temperatures creeping just above 5C.
Canberra residents did it even tougher, with the temperature dropping to -4C in some parts of the nation’s capital.
A low-pressure system is tipped to cause havoc across western Victoria and western NSW on Friday.
It is then expected to push east and result in possible showers and gusty winds along the eastern seaboard.
Across the capital cities, there is a high chance of showers for Brisbane, Perth, Canberra and Melbourne – with similar conditions expected for Saturday and Sunday.
Sydney will be cloudy and windy, with Hobart to see showers on Sunday.
Darwin is the place to enjoy sunny conditions, with maximum temperatures of 32 degrees forecast for both Saturday and Sunday.

Perth broke its July rainfall record on July 20, and more wet weather is expected for the Western Australian capital the next couple of days.
It copped 184.2mm of rain as of July 20, after 18 straight days of downpour – eclipsing the previous record of 182.6mm in 2001.
The city is expected to be drenched with up to 200mm this month in total.
Weatherzone meteorologist Craig McIntosh told Daily Mail Australia the rain in WA will return on Friday.
