A mum-of-two has divided the internet over an unusual way to scoop flour that she claims prevents mess while baking.
Carolina Mccauley, from Perth, shared a video on Instagram showing how she transferred the flour using a whisk, which doubles as a tool to break up any clumps if you don’t have a sieve or a sifter.
‘Avoid flour messes with this simple trick. I was today years old when I discovered this. Did you know you can scoop up flour by simply using a whisk?’ she said.

The video shows her pushing the wire whisk into a bowl of flour, before rotating it slightly. She then pulls the whisk upwards, moving it to a measuring cup and then she taps it gently to release the flour.
The method allows home cooks to transfer the flour from a canister, a container or a packet into a mixing bowl in just seconds.
While some were amazed with the trick, others didn’t see the logic behind it.
‘Seems like it would be easier and less messy to use a scoop or a spoon,’ one wrote, while another said: ‘Did you know… a spoon works too?’
Others were confused about the mum transferring flour from a bowl to a measuring cup.
‘Who takes flour out of the package to place into a bowl then move from that bowl to the measuring cup?’ one wrote, laughing.
While another added: ‘Why have a whole bowl of flour? Just measure it with a spoon out of the packet.’

However some defended the mum, with one saying: ‘The point of the bowl is for demonstration. The fact so many don’t get that blows my mind.
‘Secondly, they aren’t using a spoon or whatever because why dirty another dish when the whisk is all inclusive.’
While another added: ‘There are so many dishes that doesn’t require flour measurements . This technique can be used.’
Meanwhile, some admitted they were ‘mind blown’ over the method, with one saying: ‘Get out – how did I not know this?’
The kitchen ‘hack’ has been doing the rounds on TikTok in recent months.
