Trainer Jane Chapple-Hyam will shoot for the stars with Claymore after the imposing colt put his rivals to the sword in an impressive debut victory at Newmarket.

After the Joe Fanning-ridden colt comfortably pulled four lengths clear of favourite Noble Order, Chapple-Hyam said: ‘We have liked him for a long time and it was nice to see him go out and do what we always thought he could.

‘He is very raw but class told. We are going to go big time. We are going to for the (2,000) Guineas and Derby. Why not?’

Chapple-Hyam won the first Group One race of her career when Saffron Beach landed the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Palace Pier has been retired to stud by owner Sheik Mohammed. The John and Thady Gosden-trained colt landed five Group One races during an 11-race career which featured nine wins.

He was beaten a neck by Baaeed in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on his final race last Saturday.

Ahoy Senor, who won the Grade One Sefton Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree in April for trainer Lucinda Russell, makes his steeplechasing debut at Carlisle (2.30) on Thursday.
