The 6ft 3ins Turner has 13 caps for USA and was a member of their CONCACAF Gold Cup winning side last summer.

The offer is understood to be around £5million with add-ons taking it to £7m.

Arsenal have three promising young goalkeepers on their books in Arthur Okonkwo, James Hillson and Karl Hein but view Turner as someone with more experience ready to be a competitive understudy to Ramsdale.

Leno has been looking for more regular first team football and could yet depart in this window amid interest from clubs in Europe while he has also been linked with Newcastle United.

Arsenal’s interest in Turner comes as a glowing endorsement to the MLS which is continuing to produce better quality players who are moving to Europe to further their careers.

New England will not stand in Turner’s way recognising that it is a huge opportunity for him to play in the Premier League.
