Talks with allies for common candidates

Sali Berisha’s extended hand to the MPs who support Enkelejd Alibeaj seems to have given the first signals to the blue camp. It was the chief democrat himself, who confirmed the start of negotiations not only for the territorial reform, but also the appearance as a united body in the local elections in front of the only opponent he says he has, Prime Minister Rama.

“It is not just an invitation, meetings have taken place. Mr. Paloka is intensively dealing with this, but not only him. So all the doors of communication are open and this public invitation of mine is the last case that, if they want through understanding or agreement, we can welcome any kind of suggestion.”

Berisha called on the democratic deputies to compete or support a candidate, expressly excluding only Lulzim Basha from this process.

“It will be the primaries that will decide, not the presidency and the mayor. Any MP who wants to run is invited to run, except for one you know.”

He sees coming out with a joint candidate of the opposition in the elections as the key to victory in the next electoral battle, a position which he basically confirmed that he had shared with the leaders of the allied parties, with whom he has been meeting for a few days now.

“I find that it is really moving towards a single candidate. The membership will vote in these primaries, as well as sympathizers. I asked the allied parties, make the lists so that your members can vote the same, with full equality.”

The chief democrat said that in the following days, in addition to negotiations within the blue camp, meetings with other non-parliamentary parties will also continue.
