Set-piece chaos! USWNT’s Midge Purce’s EMBARRASSING penalty fail ends up in the East River

Set-piece chaos! USWNT star Midge Purce’s EMBARRASSING penalty fail ends up in the East River before Thierry Henry strikes co-pundit Micah Richards in the face with his free kick as CBS Golazo takes Brooklyn

A set piece competition between the CBS sports American and European broadcast teams lead to some chaotic moments.

Previously when it was announced that the European team would be traveling to Brooklyn for live the first of its live Champions League ‘watch party’ shows, Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher challenged the American team to bring any five players and take on the three co-hosts.

The duo claimed that the European side would win based off Champions League experience. But it turns out neither side did very well when attempting to convert their set pieces live on air.

Thierry Henry’s free kick clattered off the forehead of Micah Richards as he stood in the wall

The chaotic antics began when Thierry Henry attempted to convert a free kick over a wall constructed of Richards, Carragher, Charlie Davies, and fans.

After taking several minutes while Henry explained his free kick approach, the legendary player finally took the kick and the results were less than desired.

Henry’s kick turned into a line drive that connected flush with Richards’ forehead.

Things only got worse when USWNT forward Midge Purce stepped up to take a penalty, which went just about as poorly as Henry’s free kick.

Purce, who also plays for NY/NJ Gotham sent the free kick sailing miles over the goal. Not only did she miss the net, but also sent the ball for a dip into the East River.

At least former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel wasn’t tasked to actually have to stop a shot or we may have been able to add another blooper to the list
