McCann – who returns to the Octagon for the first time since July when she beat Hannah Gold – decided to give Adesanya a gift before the big night.

McCann said: ‘I got you Alex Iwobi. So, he’s from your Nigerian soccer team and I got him to sign you that… I just thought a brother from where I am from supporting you.’

Adesanya replied saying: ‘Oh wow that is awesome. I am gonna look him [Iwobi] up. Thank you so much’ before leaning in to hug McCann.

McCann went on to explain what Everton’s motto, Nil satis nisi optimum, meant to Adesanya.

The 33-year-old repeated what he had been told to the camera before taking McCann once again.

The clash between Adesanya and Pereira is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 12 at Madison Square Garden, New York.

The preliminary card will start at 11pm for those in the UK, with the main card beginning at 1am on Sunday morning.

The pair are expected to touch gloves at around 4.15am, though that will of course depend on the results beforehand.

Adesanya has been almost untouchable in the UFC, with that defeat to Jan Blachowicz at light-heavyweight last year still the only blemish on his resume.

Pereira faces a daunting task, having been beaten by the Brazilian twice as a kickboxer, the second ending via knockout.

The KO in 2017 was devastating. Pereira required medical attention and was given oxygen before coming around.

UFC president Dana White described the upcoming fight as ‘bats**t nuts’, and the Madison Square Garden crowd will certainly be expecting fireworks.
