The presidency of the DP has approved the names of the candidates who will participate in the primaries for mayor in 26 municipalities of the country. In a direct link to the news edition on TV Klan, journalist Jolldiz Mitro has provided more details about this process that precedes the local elections of May 14, 2023.
Joldiz Mitro: Just a few hours ago, the leadership of the DP approved the candidates for the primaries for 26 municipalities that will compete in the May 14 elections. For other municipalities, the candidates, after passing the Electoral Commission’s filter in the blue office, will be submitted for approval at the next meeting of the DP Presidency. What stands out is the fact that in 3 municipalities, there is no competition because there is only one candidate, and more specifically, in the Municipality of Elbasan, the democrats will compete in the elections on May 14 with one of the main figures of this political force, Vice President Luciano Bocce. Likewise, in the Municipality of Shkodra, Bardh Spahia will seek a reconfirmation in the elections of May 14, and in the Municipality of Kukes, the only candidate is Admir Sinamati.
The race seems stronger in the Municipality of Tirana, where 7 candidates will compete against each other, namely Belind Këlliçi, Ilir Alimehmeti, Gerti Bogdani, Julian Deda, Adriana Kalaja, Fatmir Merkoçi and Enkelejda Fejzo.
In another large municipality, such as that of Durrës, there are 2 candidates in the race, Igli Cara and Armand Dervishi.
Reis Chico: When is this process expected to end?
Jolldiz Mitro: Immediately after the announcement of the official candidacies, after their approval by the presidency, the candidates start the campaign and on December 4 the primaries for the Democratic Party will be held./broread
