Princess Charlene looks stylish in monochrome ensemble

Princess Charlene looked effortlessly chic in a black and white ensemble as she arrived at the St Nicholas Cathedral for Monaco’s National Day celebrations.

The mother-of-two, 44, took her husband Prince Albert’s arm as the Royal Family descended the stairs outside the church in Monte Carlo following a service on Saturday.

Charlene opted for a long, white coat for Monaco’s National Day, worn over a high-neck black dress. She also donned a pair of black leather gloves.

She completed her monochrome ensemble with a black, wide-brim hat and simple pearl drop earrings. The royal kept her make-up classic for the occasion.

Her husband, Prince Albert, was in formal attire, with a number of opulent medals embellishing the front of his jacket – which was embroidered with red and gold.

The pair were seated with Princess Caroline of Hanover and Princess Stephanie of Monaco for the ceremony, which is celebrated on November 19 each year.

The holiday is also known as The Sovereign Prince’s Day, and the date of the celebration is chosen by the reigning Prince.

Traditionally, the Princes chose the day of the saint they are named after.

But when Prince Albert ascended, he decided to choose the same day as his father rather than the day of Saint Albert, which would have been November 15.

It is typically celebrated with fireworks over the harbour the evening before, and a mass at St Nicholas Cathedral in Monte Carlo the next morning.

The celebrations come after Princess Charlene and Prince Albert took part in Monaco’s Red Cross gift giveaway on Wednesday.

Charlene made the most of the mild November temperatures and more the festive green dress, which had long flowing sleeves and was tied at the waist with a black leather belt.

The annual charity distribution is part of a number of events organised by the Red Cross in the run up to Christmas in Monaco and sees members of the princely family gift presents to people in need.

The event saw members of the princely family speak to some of the Red Cross volunteers who took part in the gift distribution.

They also listened to the story of vulnerable people who were stocking up on gifts ahead of Christmas.
