The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, before arriving in Tirana where he will participate in the EU-Western Balkans summit, met with the Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob in Ljubljana. During the press conference, Michel spoke about the importance of the summit that will be held tomorrow in Tirana.

“Tomorrow’s EU-Western Balkans summit is very symbolic because it will take place in Tirana, in the heart of the region. It shows a strong evolution in terms of commitment”, he writes on Twitter.

Meanwhile, he accompanies his post with a moment from the conference in Slovenia. Speaking about the importance of the summit, Michel announced that an ambitious declaration has been drawn up, which according to him will connect the EU more with the Western Balkans.

“Let me start by emphasizing the Western Balkans and our involvement in tomorrow’s summit. It is very symbolic because it will take place in Tirana, in the heart of the Western Balkans, and it shows a strong evolution in terms of atmosphere and commitment. We all remember the summit in Brussels last summer with the Western Balkans as a moment of truth. Since then we have started procedures with Albania and North Macedonia. We have drafted an ambitious statement, which will be presented tomorrow, in order to connect the Western Balkans more closely with the European Union, and this is even before the end of the accession process”, Michel said. /broread
