The President of the country, Bajram Begaj, has commemorated the students of December 1990.
Through a post on Facebook, President Begaj writes that December 8 is celebrated as “National Youth Day”, thus expressing gratitude to the students and young people of that time.
President Begaj adds that December 8 is the dream of a generation expressed in the call “We love Albania like all of Europe”, but the aspiration of a nation to make “Albania like all of Europe” remains.
“December 8, 32 years ago, of the students of Tirana, would finally separate two eras in the history of the Albanian state.
That December would be the last December of the communist government, to remain in history the first December of freedom in political pluralism, to remain forever the December that ignited hope for democracy.
Therefore, a people who had faced so many sacrifices and impossibilities, filled the squares of Tirana and all of Albania, through the student call: “We love Albania like all of Europe!”
The foresight and visionary wisdom of the Albanian students of that generation immediately brought together workers and intellectuals, teachers and scientists, brought together the entire Albanian people, who without any doubt, but with conviction and patriotic will determined the path of its future.
This is exactly the reason why we honor and celebrate December 8 as the National Youth Day, expressing in this way our gratitude to the students and young people of that time, as well as our responsibility and obligation to the Albanian youth at all times.
The message of this day is trust, it is mission, it is obligation and responsibility.
The ideals of the students of December 1990 should always inspire us to work responsibly, with seriousness and dedication, in order to continue without stopping our path of Euro-Atlantic integration.
December 8 is the dream of a generation expressed in the call “We love Albania like all of Europe”, but it remains the aspiration of a nation to make Albania like all of Europe”. President Begaj wrote./broread
