“In primary school they made fun of the student card”
The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has stopped at a meeting with the youth of Unit Number 7. He spoke about the importance of cooperation in a team.
Erion Veliaj:We don’t need a title from Brussels to turn the month of December into a month of solidarity for children, the needy, for a lonely grandparent. I said to these friends of mine in the opposition, who refused to come to the Youth Year activities – who refuse to come even to Martyrs’ Day, and now want to change the names of the schools – Is there anything you are in favor of ? We invest, we do it for everyone.
Veliaj asked for more awareness of the projects and services offered by the Municipality.
Erion Veliaj: The cynic, the doubter, the scoffer, anyone can do it, it’s the simplest thing in the world… I was listening to one of these candidates when he presented the platform in the DP primaries, who said: ‘No, what is that Student Card, it is in vain’. One stands up and to reinforce this, he said: ‘You are very right, it is useless, that only in some kinkaleri you get a discount of 10, 15, 20%, it is not that there is anything else’. Then another said: ‘Yes, it’s completely useless, but why do you need it for some free cinema and opera?’ And so, cursing our work, they turned into the biggest advertisers of the Student Card”.
Veliaj pointed out that Tirana is moving in step with digital technology.
Erion Veliaj: In a city like Tirana, with a million inhabitants, if we have 10 thousand coders, we can change the country’s economy, because this also produces other businesses. We are halfway through this ambition, that’s why we want centers like ‘Tumo’, ‘Inteli’ – which has been introduced in 10 high schools in Tirana, we want to take it to 20 high schools, at a time when the subject of coding has already started in the grades of money – to produce another five thousand encoders.
Taking a cue from the fact that Tirana will start its journey as the “European City of Sports”, the mayor pointed out the role played by sports, mainly in the cultivation of a healthy society.
