During the discussion in Davos about the European political community, Prime Minister Rama stated that the countries of the Western Balkans are at the center of Europe and have no intention of going anywhere else.

“The Western Balkans is in the middle of Europe. We have nowhere to go. I would like the Serbs to go somewhere else, but they too have nowhere to go. People in Brussels must understand that we are in a situation where support for integration is falling and when Putin is seen as a hero in some of the states of the region.

We have a big agreement with the Serbian president about what he considers the province of Serbia and what I know as the independent state of Kosovo, but this has not prevented us from cooperating to maintain peace in the region.”

According to Rama, in the conditions of the current crisis, the states of our region should be supported with financial funds even though they are not members of the EU.

“We have imposed sanctions on Russia and are dealing with the consequences of the current crisis. Under these conditions, the EU should offer us more, support us financially. I am not claiming that we should be given the same amount of funding as our EU neighbors, but something that all these Balkan states should receive.

In North Macedonia, for example, the situation risks escalating under the threat of nationalism, which can create many concerns.”

Speaking about the justice reform, the head of the Albanian government criticized the EU for blaming us for the vacuum in the justice institutions in the country. EP President Roberta Metsola also offered support for the rapid integration of the Balkan states.
