Pountland has shut nine stores over recent months, with the company consolidating some smaller outlets

Between February 28 and May 25, stores in Walkden, Southport, Ipswich, Openshaw, Epsom, Swadlincote, Dewsbury, Stoke and Gateshead had closed.

In a number of cases, the firm has forced to close stores because their lease was expiring and the landlord was not willing to renew.

Last month, almost 20 high street restaurants from The Restaurant Group (THG) closed for the last time

The firm with owns Wagamama, Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito is to close 35 outlets over the next two years.

Even budget pub chain Wetherspoons is closing more than a dozen of its outlets as a result of continuing soaring inflation rates.
