Rama: This conflict has a reason, Kosovo and Serbia are hesitating for mutual recognition

The Prime Minister of the country, Edi Rama, is this Wednesday in Bratislava, Slovakia, where the Security Forum is taking place.

In addition to the economic situation of the countries of the Western Balkans or the EU funds, Rama stopped several times at the situation created in the north of Kosovo.

According to him, Serbia and Kosovo are on the verge of a historic agreement regarding the mutual recognition of the states. And this very thing, the head of the government emphasizes, is the reason that produces such situations. The two countries hesitate, he added, because they are used to being hostile parties.

“Let’s put things in perspective first, unfortunately before the summer comes we always have a problem in the north of Kosovo, I don’t know why it always happens in the summer, maybe because Kosovo and Serbia have no sea and heads get hot. But where were we 20 years ago? Where were we 10 years ago? We were in a much more difficult situation, today the Western Balkans is in its best position and between Kosovo and Serbia, things have not been better because they are only one step away from concluding a historic agreement. Now both sides have a kind of hesitation because they see that this will be done and they won’t have to fight each other anymore. Perhaps this goes against their inertia of needing to fight, of living to fight. This is the prospect, it’s better than ever! Now, this conflict there has a reason which in my view could have been completely avoided because in my view it is not indicative of concrete problems. The mayors of these municipalities were elected by 1% of the population, while 99% of the community there did not vote and feel unrepresented, but the bottom line is that there is an agreement that must be concluded. Mutual recognition, which is something extraordinary. And there is a reluctance to reach this agreement that produces these situations.” said the Prime Minister.

Earlier, he said that the Serbian army on the border of Kosovo has a power equal to 0. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, is also present at this forum.broread
