At the beginning of the post, the anonymous mother said: ‘So I had my son almost 11 months ago and we named him Karver McClain.’
Before she was even expecting her first child, she knew she had McClain in mind as a baby name.
‘I don’t even remember where I heard the name but I know that I immediately fell in love with the name,’ she said.
The mom added: ‘My baby’s father didn’t feel the same way though, so we compromised and made it his middle name instead which was okay to me at the time because I couldn’t for the life of me think of a middle name that would sound good with it.’
After deciding on a middle name, the couple began brainstorming a first name.
The woman’s mother even helped her daughter find the perfect name for her son.
‘My mom was reading a list of names to me and she said the name Karver. I heard it loved it and so did his dad.
‘I though it looked dumb with a C so we spelt it K and we put it on the birth certificate.’

She noted that they felt ‘fine’ when they issued his moniker but after a couple months, she wasn’t very happy with her decision.
‘We felt fine about it but fast forward a few months later and I start second guessing it,’ she said.
Because of her doubts, she decided to share her son’s name in a Facebook group.
‘I asked for opinions on the name in a baby name Facebook group and got over 80 responses, all bad.
‘Several people said that it was a perfect name for a serial killer and others told me that they’d hate their mom forever if she named them Karver, others just told me it’s horrible,’ she explained at the end of the post.
At the end of the post, she asked if she should forget about his first name altogether and refer to him by his middle name instead.
She said: ‘I guess what I’m asking is should we start calling him by his middle name? Is it too late for that now that he’s almost one and knows his name? Is his name as bad as everyone says?’
People on the social media platform flooded the comments section and shared their advice with the mom as they slammed the name Karver.

One person said: ‘Karver is pretty bad, in my opinion. It’s quite violent, and the K instead of a C looks harsher. What about Carter? It’s very close to Karver.’
Another user wrote: ‘Yeah I think Carver seems a lot less harsh than Karver.’
Someone else said: ‘Also having a K for Carver then a C in McClain that both have the same sound seems odd. I’d do Carver with a C or Carter, like many others have suggested. I know a McClain, it’s a good name but they’re very Irish so it fits.’
‘Yes, I think if OP wants to change it then Carter is the easiest and best alternative. Carter McClain is cute,’ another user suggested.
One person added: ‘I love Carter!! He will thank you for it. I am sorry but McClain is horrible to me. I would keep it as a middle.’
‘Carter McClain sounds nice and looks nice together. One year old’s aren’t good at distinguishing between similar sounds, so I doubt there’d be a long adjustment period, if any, to him getting used to his new name,’ someone else said.
Someone else added: ‘My initial reaction was serial killer, but I can also see yours. But neither are great.’
One person wrote: ‘Karver is atrocious and McClain isn’t any better either. Seriously just rename the kid.’
Another user added: ‘Poor little Karver McClain.’
